The Spirit of Amsterdam - The Last Stop

Date: 23 & 24 November, 2024

Location: Apostolisch Genootschap, Clematisstraat 25, Amsterdam

Death, we prefer not to talk about it. Yet it is inseparable from life. That is why, during Festival de Laatste Halte, part of The Spirit of Amsterdam, we make death ordinary. By talking about saying goodbye and mourning, and how these are handled in different cultures, we become aware that death is the most normal thing in the world. You’ll start to enjoy it too!

On Saturday, we will kick off with a frank talk on mourning, followed by a communal dinner that will provide the space to engage in conversation with each other once more. When evening falls, a theatre play about death and loss will undoubtedly make you reflect on the end of life. But don’t worry, this is not a sombre affair. It promises to be an eye-opening experience, which may also loosen tongues!

On Sunday, we will start with a beautiful service and afterwards it will be possible to get even more inspired at the market. You can walk around, chat with others, and listen to special stories about saying goodbye at different places in the building. And that’s not all! Our cultural programme is filled with great music, a book launch, and theatre performances on grief and bereavement.

Festival the Last Stop provides a safe space for both deep and light-hearted conversations on a topic we often avoid but cannot escape in life. You are welcome to participate, or simply listen. Relax, talk and come to new insights about what the last stop on life’s journey means to you.
